…I’ve never written a product review before, but this is such amazingly good coffee I just had to say so. From the first sip I knew this was coffee like I had never tasted before. And in Seattle – where coffee falls from the sky like so much rain – that’s saying something. I had planned to serve this as the perfect cap for a recent dinner party with friends, but it didn’t last in my house long enough to make the dinner. So I’m back for more.Now I’m wondering if the folks at Hawaii Roasters have any openings. I work cheap…you can pay me in these wonderful, rich coffee beans!

Pure Kona coffee, especially when it comes directly from the farm, is everything the coffee lover ever hoped for, absolutely as good as its description suggests it will be. The flavor is rich because farm-processed coffee never has the chance to get stale–the cherries are skinned and the beans are dried and roasted immediately after picking for maximum freshness and mellow flavor. They don’t sit around over-fermenting while waiting to be processed (which then requires dark roasting to kill the “spoiled” taste).

Though pure 100% Kona is rare and difficult to find, this coffee is the real deal–a premier coffee which is among the costliest and most sought-after. If you are just browsing for coffee, take a close look at the label. For some strange reason, coffee can be legally called “Kona” if it contains just ten percent Kona beans (with 90% of the beans coming from unknown sources), and some new buyers are unaware of this. Kona coffee is world reknowned as being some of the best in the world, and I can speak with experience knowing that this domestic blend compares favorably with some of the best.

However, I only ask those in Hawaii who farm and roast these beans to forgive me for saying that I think Konas are a bit overrated in the world of coffee.

Yes, these beans have a lot of flavor. The body is unrivalled. Everything is balanced in a way that is unique to the Kona bean, but there are no subtle undertones prevalent that make me like the Sumatran and Ethiopian beans so much better. The beans are aesthetically perfect in every way, and I only have to use about 2/3 the portion of what I would use to make my favorite brews, but this is where it gets touchy for me. I pay about -13 a lb for coffee that might not be better than Kona coffee, but I like it better. Hawaii Growers makes a mighty fine coffee, one of the best Konas I’ve ever tasted, but it isn’t worth more than a lb. No coffee is worth that to me, and I’ve tasted the world’s finest.

Hawaii Growers is very competitively priced compared to other Konas, so if Kona coffee is the drinker’s coffee of choice, then Hawaii Growers is a great choice. For someone who prefers coffee from other regions, Kona still stacks up well, but a purchase for me was to simply try something new rather than to look for a new regular.

I’m a dark roast lover, but this was too strong for me – regardless of how I made it. I gave it to a friend who thought it was fabulous. So here’s my advice: don’t make it too strong – it becomes bitter, and if you’re not sure you like dark roasts….go with the light roast here. Kona is traditionally very smooth coffee, and this is, but it’s truly for strong dark coffee lovers.

I bought this sampler for my Mother and she loved it. This is a woman who does not function without two or three pots of coffee a day so she knows her coffee. As for me, I am not much of a coffee drinker but I tried most of the flavors and thought that they were very good without being overly strong. We got about two pots (8 to 12 cups) per bag without the coffee being too watered down. Definitely a hit with any coffee drinkers in your life. I sprung for the gift wrapping and was not disappointed. Be warned though, the box it is shipped in will have the name of the company and what is inside of it, so if you are trying to surprise someone maybe have it shipped to a friends house first. Otherwise very happy with the product.

Black Mountain Gold, Flavored Gourmet Coffee Gift Sampler – 30 Count Reviews

I bought this item to take apart and create several gifts with it. In other words, with these 30 packets, I was able to create 5 great gift baskets by just adding a couple of coffee mugs in each one. To buy this to use as a single gift is fine as well, but, you will need to figure out a different way to present it. It comes in a sturdy, sectioned cardboard box (in the photo, it looks to be wooden, but it is not), and so the packaging isn’t particularly pleasing to the eye. However, the coffee packs themselves are lively and colorful, and they will make a fantastic gift in another type of a container (i.e. basket or something).

I decided to keep 5 packs of the coffee for my own use, and I have to say that the 2 that I’ve tried thusfar were outstanding! Very smooth, with strong, distinctive flavors. Specifically, I tried the Amaretto and Mocha so far, and both were great. This sampler pack is pretty inexpensive, and it’s a great way to give a little something to your coworkers at Christmas. When I purchased this item, I paid .00, but I see that it has increased in price since then. I probably would be less inclined to buy it now, although the coffee really is outstanding.

Sometimes you just don’t know when you buy things on line, but I am extremely pleased with Black Mountain Gold Coffee. I really enjoy my coffee and I have tried plenty of them, but this coffee is some of the best I have ever tasted. You can smell the rich fresh aroma when you open the bag. Finally, somebody gets it with flavored coffee. I have never tasted more delicious flavors. All of the flavors that I have tried so far are great, but I am not a big Amaretto fan so I won’t be drinking that one. I had nothing but compliments from my wife and friends. Thanks Black Mountain Gold for making a product with old fashioned quality.

I have to admit that the 20 years Starbucks says it devoted to developing an instant coffee worthy of the “Starbucks” name was time well spent. Whatever they did and however they did it, Starbucks has managed to create a super-rich tasting instant coffee that could easily be mistaken for their traditionally brewed coffee. The popular dark (Italian) and mild (Colombian) flavors are offered in very classy looking plastic pouches that conveniently turn 8oz of hot water into the best tasting instant coffee you’ve ever had. In fact, I had a difficult time telling it from their brewed coffee, and normally that’s all I ever buy there. Although the price is a bit high – almost a a cup – it’s still a great alternative when you just can’t find a walk-in store. I see a few packets taking cross-country flights with me, as well as stuffing a handful into my backpack when I camp. Heck, I’ll never have to drink hotel-room coffee again! Hey Starbucks – when can I expect a “decaf” version?

Overall, these are some of the best pods I’ve ever tried. I particularly liked the Lava Java and Chocolate Paradise, and the Estate Blend Medium Roast wasn’t bad either. Even at 20% Kona, these have a distinctive and high-quality flavor, it makes me curious to try the 100% Kona. I do wish they were a little stronger though, most of the blends were watery at the 8 oz (double cup) setting with my Senseo and I feel like they’re too expensive to just use at the 4 oz. Nevertheless, this is very smooth and delicious coffee without bitterness or bad aftertaste.

My loving sister bought the variety pack of pods for my birthday, and the packaging was splendid! It was like unveiling a super-expensive gift! Once I tried the pods, I was hooked!
